About BEd Course
Marathwada College of Education was established in 1970, initially a division of 70 students for Urdu medium was sanctioned by the State Govt. This division was started to provide trained teachers to Urdu medium schools in the State of Maharashtra as there was not a single Urdu medium B.Ed. college in the entire State and Urdu schools were facing difficulty in getting trained teachers.
But since, the founder Late Dr. Rafiq Zakaria firmly believed in secularism, he started a Marathi medium division of 40 students. In 1989 the college was allotted a new division of 80 students as the number of Urdu medium schools increased rapidly in the State and one division was not sufficient. In this way the strength of Urdu medium was 150 while the strength of Marathi medium was 40; both the mediums were Grant-in Aid.As there was not a single college for English medium students, the management started English medium division of 100 students in the year 2003.
In the year 2014, New Norms & Regulations were introduced by the NCTE, New Delhi. The duration of the course was extended from one year to two years; therefore NCTE reshuffled the intake capacities and fixed 1 unit for 50 students. Now the college is having two units on Grant-in Aid basis, out of which one unit is of Urdu medium while the other unit is of Marathi medium.
On non-grant basis there are two units of English medium, one unit of Marathi medium and one unit of Urdu medium. In all there are six units in the B.Ed. course.
